I try to draw breath
Only to find myself drowning
Not in water but in a sea of memories
A sea of torture that I created myself
Memories of people long gone
People never to be forgotten
Memories of lost love
Lovers never to leave my broken heart
Memories of the pain
Pain that remains still in the scars that I have
Memories that I want to forget
But at the same time don't want to leave behind

I'm struggling to breath
But only pain and memories fill me
They cloud my mind
They cloud my heart and soul
Overtaking me
Pulling me deeper
I'm drowning in a hell I created myself
Drowning in a well of memories that should have been forgotten
Unable to breathe
Unable to fight
For all these memories are me
And how does one fight themself?
How does one kill what makes them who they are?
How does one escape drowning in their own memories?

Falling, falling
Deeper and deeper into the swirling mist
Glancing at memories I never wanted to see again
Clinging to the memories that I wanted with me always
Unable to breathe
Unable to move anymore
Drowning in the past
Drowning in my memories
I could not fight away my memories...
I could not be saved from my memories
Take this as a warning...
Don't get drowned by memories

Well then, this is a poem inspired by the word Drowning. I already did one on actual drowning, you know with water but that was a long time ago and I figured I would do something different this time. And that was when a conversation between a friend of mine and I brought back the thought that he told me I dwelled too much in the past and tortured myself with things that could never be. So yea... those two things inspired this!!

Comment and Critique please. Like always I want to improve and I can't do that without some input!

I can actually relate to this poem. Sometimes when I'm alone or bored, I find myself (as you say in your poem) drowning in my memories both good and dark.

How you expressed it in this, it's really powerful and great. You can feel the emotion and the memories overruling the mind and body. I love it. ^^

Droplets of water slowly cascading down your once beautiful skin.
Now tainted from the poison the previous men in your life left for me to see...
